Improving radiologic technologist performance in breast cancer screening: impact of a training course

Recently, the clinical performance of 29 Radiologic Technologists of the diagnostic imaging units from the Costa Ponent and Barcelonès Nord and Maresme Screening Program for breast cancer have been evaluated. Clinical performance was assessed before and after the completionof a theoretical and practical training course organized by the ICO technical screening office.The purpose of the course was to provide tools to radiologic technologists to ensure quality standards in their everyday practices .

Following thetrainingc, a significant improvement on the clinical image quality of mammograms has been observed.

The evaluation was carried out using the PGMI system (Perfect, Good, Moderate, Inadequate) of the UK National Health Service. There are several criteria for acceptability of mammogram images for the medio-lateral oblique (MLO) view and the cranio-caudal (CC) view. The images are classified as P,G, M or I according to these criteria.
