“Cancer prevention route” in El Masnou

The Cancer Prevention Route took place on April 7 in El Masnou, as part of the Health Week activities organized by the El Masnou city council with the collaboration of the Table of Community Health of El Masnou and the Sant Franscesc d’Asís Foundation

The route was in charge of The Tobacco Control Unit and the Cancer Screening Unit of the Prevention and Control Program together with the Virus and Cancer Unit and the Nutrition and Cancer Unit of the Cancer Epidemiology Research Program of the Catalan Institute of Oncology (ICO) / Bellvitge Biomedical Research Institute (IDIBELL).

ICO and IDIBELL professionals provided information and advice on healthy lifestyles for primary cancer prevention, following the guidelines of the European Cancer Code, which also includes preventive practices for the early detection of breast, colorectal and cervical cancers within the corresponding population-based screening programs.

This prevention route, installed in Plaça Nova in El Masnou, was visited by many citizens of all ages from noon till the afternoon. Visitors could take part in some of the activities proposed by the ICO-IDIBELL professionals, from games such as the food pyramid to carboxymetry testing.

Before the Route, Dr. Esteve Fernández, Director of Cancer Epidemiology and Prevention, gave the talk “Can we prevent cancer?” on Monday evening at the “Joan Coromines” Library.
